I came across this beautifully coloured stone with its subtle pattern of concentric rings as I was exploring on a beach in Northumberland. Whilst it was not much bigger than the size of my hand it stood out on account of there being no other stones or rocks around it of remotely the same nature.
Its rounded shape and amber colour contrasted beautifully with the dark and more angular rocks where it lay. The tiny shells and seaweed really galvanise the bigger elements in the picture and hold the composition together, whilst also contributing some detail and texture and providing the image with its coastal context.
